Dear Parents,

I hope you have all had a good week! We have had a busy time and are ending the week with positive news that our teachers have been called for their COVID Vaccinations today and tomorrow! That is good news for us and we are extremely pleased.

Model United Nations SSMUNXI

25 of our Secondary students have had a wonderful opportunity to engage with other students in a virtual MUN conference. King’s College Murcia is the only Inspired school in Europe to participate and I am extremely proud of all of our delegates. Organised by San Mateo School in Bogota, Colombia this conference is entirely student led and has focused on a range of topics to debate including Catalonian Independence, Femicide and sexual crimes against communities and the future of Science and Technology. They have worked in school since Wednesday until 20.30 debating and collaborating on passing motions and writing resolutions in the style of the United Nations. They have learnt a great deal about the world of formal language and debate and how to argue for a case you do not personally support. This would not have been possible without dedicated teachers who have guided our young delegates and shared in the many learning opportunities.

Thank you very much to Rhiannon Williams who has led the organisation and believed we could participate with very little time. Thank you also to Maria Balsalobre and Ramón Puente who have worked with the students in the Spanish language debates. And many many thanks to the parents who have supported and helped their children to prepare for the debates and picked them up from school late. We have one more big debate tonight and hope we can all stay awake for the closing ceremonies.

I am amazed that so many students came forward to participate and thank them all for their enthusiasm and hard work! I am sure this is the start of something really wonderful here at KCM!

Open Days

Last Saturday we invited prospective parents to visit the school for Open Day. Many thanks to the teachers and Ms Williams for ensuring our students’ artwork is so beautifully displayed in the entrance and school corridors. The next onsite Open Day is Thursday 15th April at 17.00

Breakfast Club/Before School Club

We hope to restart the Breakfast Club after Easter. This would run from 8am-9am. If you would like your child to attend please contact the school office murcia.info@kings.education

Extra-Curricular Clubs and Music Lessons

Many thanks to Mr Ryland for putting together the extra-curricular clubs selection. You will receive a separate letter about this today. We hope to start the clubs after Easter.  Please contact school office if you are interested in Music lessons.

Penpals

We are encouraging our young people to write and share their experiences of living in Spain during the pandemic. Year 7 have been writing letters to new pen friends in Sydney, Australia and the UK, explaining about the climate in Murcia and what exciting activities they get up to in school. Thanks to Dr Browne for organising this activity.

Primary Mymaths

For the last few years, we have used an online learning platform – RM Easimaths – to support and consolidate Mathematics in the Primary years.  Whilst this has been effective, we now want to use a resource that supports and provides effective Mathematics learning into the Secondary years.  We have therefore cancelled our subscription for RM Easimaths and we will be providing you information about the MyMaths – the new platform – once this is established in school.  If you would like to review this resource, more information can be found here:

Students have login information for Education City.  There are Mathematics learning activities there as well as in ActiveLearn.

Art Competition Winner from KCM

Congratulations to Valentina in Year 3 who has won second prize in an art competition organized by the College of Physicians of Murcia. The subject of the competition was to draw a picture of a doctor in their family during the COVID epidemic.
