A-Level Curriculum

The A-Level curriculum at King’s College Murcia follows a two-year structure designed by Pearson International Edexcel. Students begin with AS-Levels in Year 12, establishing a strong foundation in their chosen subjects.

In Year 13, they progress to the A2 stage, where they deepen their knowledge, refine their analytical and study skills, and prepare for three to four A-Level qualifications through externally marked examinations.

As part of our commitment to providing excellent preparation for higher education in Spain and beyond, all students also work towards Spanish qualifications at an appropriate level, with most completing A-Level Spanish in Year 13. Students studying Further Mathematics must also take A-Level Mathematics to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Learn More About A-Levels

Our experienced A-Level teachers at King's College Murcia are dedicated to inspiring and supporting students throughout their academic journey. They serve as role models of our strong British values, fostering a learning environment where students think critically, challenge ideas, and develop a passion for learning.

As highly qualified educators, they bring expertise in their respective fields and extensive experience with the international A-Level curriculum. Many hold advanced degrees from prestigious UK and international universities. Beyond teaching, they provide ongoing mentorship, university guidance, and career advice to help students make informed decisions about their future.

This personalised support, combined with our outstanding facilities and resources, ensures that students can thrive across the curriculum and reach their full potential.

The transition from IGCSE to A-Levels marks a shift from broad subject coverage to specialised study. While IGCSE students typically study and take examinations in a wide range of subjects, A-Level students focus on three or four subjects in greater depth. This change requires a higher level of independent study and analytical thinking, as students are expected to engage with complex concepts and demonstrate a deeper understanding of their chosen fields. They are also required to conduct further reading or research on key syllabus topics.

Additionally, A-Level study places greater emphasis on problem-solving and critical evaluation, skills that are essential for university success. As students progress through the programme, they develop the ability to work independently, conduct research, and present well-structured arguments, setting the stage for future academic and professional pursuits.

Assessment for A-Level subjects varies by discipline but typically includes written examinations at the end of each year. Some subjects also require coursework, practical assessments, or oral examinations. The final A-Level exams take place in May and June of Year 13, with students receiving individual grades for each subject.

The Pearson International Edexcel A-Level programme is graded on a scale from A* to E, with each grade reflecting a student’s level of achievement. These internationally benchmarked qualifications are widely recognised by universities and employers, providing graduates with a solid foundation for their future studies and careers.
