Will my child learn English & Spanish at the school?
As a British international school, we are committed to ensuring that all children receive excellent tuition and support to become proficient in English. Through full English immersion, our British-qualified teachers help develop students' language skills and confidence across the curriculum.
In addition, all students learn Spanish to a native level. Spanish-speaking pupils are required to take a minimum number of Spanish classes per week, with frequency and duration depending on their age. Non-Spanish speakers will learn Spanish as a foreign language starting from Reception.
What other languages do students learn?
All students are taught every subject (except Modern Foreign Languages) in English and study Spanish from Reception to Year 11, either 'Lengua y Cultura' or Spanish as a Second Language. Key Stage 3 students study French and have the option to continue learning this language at IGCSE and beyond.
What language(s) do children speak in the playground?
English is the language of instruction in the classroom, and our UK-qualified teachers provide exceptional English tuition from Pre-Nursery to Sixth Form.
In the school playground, students communicate in both English and Spanish. This bilingual environment is particularly beneficial for new students, as it helps them quickly develop language skills in both languages. The school offers excellent language support to help students become bilingual.
Do you provide support with university applications or offer university and career counselling?
Yes. There is a dedicated Head of Sixth Form who provides individualised guidance to all senior students throughout the university admissions process, both in Spain and abroad, along with a university and careers counselling programme. They also organise visits to university fairs and host specific talks to help students align their Sixth Form academic choices with their interests, strengths, and future goals.
What sports are available?
Taking advantage of our premium sports facilities, we offer a wide range of individual and team sports as part of the curriculum and as extracurricular options. These include badminton, cricket, football, golf, horse riding, judo, rugby, swimming, and many more. Students also have the opportunity to participate in sports tournaments and competitions against other schools.
What is the ratio of international students at the school?
Our student body is made up of 35 nationalities, with 55% of students coming from Spain and 45% from international backgrounds, the largest group being British.
How well do new international students adapt to the school?
Pupils at King’s College Murcia are accustomed to welcoming newcomers, both Spanish and international. Our students are usually friendly and helpful. The Heads of the different departments and form tutors ensure that ‘buddies’ are always available to guide newcomers through the initial adjustment. However, much depends on the attitude of the new student and their willingness to make new friends and engage with the school community.
How do I apply for a place for my child?
If you want your child to benefit from a King's College education, the next steps are to submit an enquiry and visit the school. This will enable you to experience our world-class education and campus first-hand, as well as ask us any questions you may have.
How do I stay in touch with the school?
Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their child's form tutor with any queries. Teacher email addresses are provided for direct communication. From Year 1 onwards, students are given a Contact Book (or Homework Diary in later years) for teachers and parents to share comments. Our doors are always open, and appointments to meet with teachers can be made after school. Senior managers are available by appointment through reception, though we recommend starting with the class tutor as the first point of contact.
